City invites public comment on draft informal trading plans for Cape Town CBD

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Management Directorate is inviting the public to comment on the proposed draft informal trading plans for the Cape Town Central Business District (CBD). Changes in trading dynamics have triggered the need to review the current plans in order to address some of the challenges and to create an enabling, supportive and well managed trading environment for all users of this public space. ‘The proposed changes will, among other things, address crime, provide bigger trading bays and most importantly, enhance the ability of traders to adhere to the Covid-19 safety regulations.

‘The City recognises the significance of the informal traders and their contribution to the economy, poverty reduction and the creation of employment opportunities that in turn contribute to household income. The effect of this plan is to provide dedicated informal trading opportunities and security of tenure for traders in the area,’ said Alderman Grant Twigg, Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Management.

All interested and affected parties are invited to attend the following open day session to submit comments and find out more about the draft revised plan:
